Right now this is too good to be true and probably won’t last long once AT&T gets wind of it but anyhoo.
Background… AT&T recently reached a deal with Starbucks to provide wifi at all of the coffee sellers locations nationwide. Of course, this is all to the detriment of T-Mobile, whose wifi at SBUX locations was downright robbery IMHO. Once AT&T launched the only question remaining was would AT&T and SBUX leverage its wifi hotspots to bring throngs of crackachino lovering iPhone users into storefronts. Well, that’s exactly what happened. Yesterday it was revealed that AT&T was giving away free unlimited wifi access to all iPhone/Ipod Touch users.
That’s great if you’re sipping on that swill they call coffee for a minute on the way to meet your personal trainer (likely named Travis), but what if you don’t want to use that tiny iPhone screen. Say you want to browse on your MAC (or PC?).
First you’ll need to set Safari unlock Safari’s developer mode. For simple instructions on how to do this, go here. This step takes two minutes tops.
Next you simply fire up Safari, go to the menus at the top of your screen.
Select Debug > User Agent > Mobile Safari 1.0.
The minor change fools the AT&T hotspot into thinking that you’re accessing it’s wifi with Mobile Safari, the same stripped down browser used by the iPhone.
Enter your 10 digit telephone # and you’re now ghost riding on AT&T’s wifi for free. FTW!
