Cap

Are you ready for more superhero movies. Marvel Studios is hoping that you are. On the heels of the blockbuster Iron Man, Marvel is betting that moviegoers will clamor for additional doses of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark as well as Marvel superhero legends Captain America, Thor and The Avengers.

According to Film School Rejects, Marvel has announced that these films could be coming as early as 2010, with Iron Man 2 coming around first. Could Captain America finally get a decent treatment and will Cappy be hunting Obama. Someone should.

What I Learned Today [Daily Roundup]

ATL chix like to intimidate old ladies on the subway by spazzin’ out off Soulja Boy lyrics.

Shorties beat each other’s tiny brains out UFC style in the streets of Jamaica and dance like they have MS.

This guy is a true buzz kill. It’s a comic! Easy.

The final cylon could be Starbuck’s Mark II ship which is total crap because we all know its Galactica itself that’s the final cylon.

Amy Winehouse is still a brilliant crackhead but won’t be singing the James Bond theme for the next flick.

Dreams die hard. Not for this guy however. He gave it all up for a game called BulletBall.

Wiretapping is EXTREMELY easy.

Iron Man: Best Superhero Movie Ever… Ever! [Iron Man]

Iron Man

I’m stoked. Your very own funkdigi saw Iron Man on Saturday evening. I’m not going out on a limb by stating that Iron Man is the best comic adaption of a super hero ever. And I mean ever. I have substance to this argument. The folks over here and here
think so. Iron Man pulled in over a $100 million at the box office this past weekend.

I’m sure most of you will agree that it mops the floor with Spiderman and handles the original Batman and the recent Batman reboot Batman Begins.

Some minor spoilers to follow…

Comic Book Adaption >>> 9 out of 10

The adaption of the movie is very close to the origin story told in the original Iron Man comics. With the exception of a few small details and time period (Post 9/11 vs. Cold War), the story of Tony Stark, son of industrialist Howard Stark, stays true to form.

Story >>> 8 out of 10

I felt the actual story was the weakest component of this movie. It was of course formulaic. One could figure out who the villain would be from the onset almost. His motivations of greed were par for the course. Of course there’s minor sexual tension between Starks and Virginia “Pepper” Potts. Additionally, most of the story conflicts weren’t hashed out as well as they could have been and Tony Starks recovers from the trauma of his capture and escape all to easily IMHO.

SFX >>> 10 out of 10

This film could not have been made 5 years ago. This film could not be made even 3 years ago and look this good. The flight scenes were amazing. I’m no expert but I felt the effects were flawless and the modeling of the various Mark version were even plausible. The effects lent credence to the plausibility. Plus, the actual props and robotic technology used looked as realistic as building a current Honda. Not looked beyind the scope of today’s technology.

Compared to the effects in last summer’s Transformers the SFX in Iron Man were clear and defined compared to the blurry modeling in Transformers. And from what I saw from The Incredible Hulk, I’m pretty sure that Marvel’s other superhero offering will not match Iron Man in its crisp look.

Acting >>> 9 out of 10

When funkdigi first heard that Robert Downey Jr. would be playing Tony Starks, I was elated. Downey is a natural fit. Downey is an Academy Award nominated actor with a history of drug abuse. He’s since cleaned up and plays this role with aloofness and sarcasm like the billion dollar playboy would. The supporting performances from Gwyneth Paltrow and Terrence Howard are also superb.

Overall>>> 9 out of 10

FWIW, here’s the clip that you may or may not have missed that ran after the credits ended, courtesy of X-Realm.
